Before Jumping into the Closet
There were a few steps, leading up to the phone call with my filmmaker prayer assignment that, due to the irrelevancy of the intention of this book, I have not mentioned. I had several “Divinely navigated steps” that led up to that phone call, and what I have not yet mentioned, is that right before my trembling hands picked up the phone to call him, I received an e-mail, from him, providing me with his phone number and “an invitation” to call him.
If you are a “wanna-be-Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior” for a filmmaker, PLEASE do not contact the filmmaker you are praying for or sense a calling to pray for unless you are absolutely sure that God has opened up the door of opportunity to do so! We, as intercessors, are very often excited, passionate, zealous, fervent, fiery, intense, driven, and unfortunately, misunderstood, criticized, and even condemned. Our intense, extreme, radical passion to pray may be misinterpreted in a number of different ways, which can end up causing tremendous misunderstanding, division, pain, much heartache, and tremendous emotional suffering.
PLEASE respect the privacy of ALL actors, filmmakers, producers, and directors! I do NOT suggest, or in any way encourage, you to follow my footsteps by picking up the telephone and calling your intended filmmaker prayer assignment! In fact, unless you are CLEARLY led by the Lord to do so, I highly discourage that!
If you are interested in becoming a “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior” for a filmmaker, my suggestion is to pray. That may sound simple and obvious. Just pray. Pray for your filmmaker. Pray for growth in his relationship with the Lord. Pray for his family. Pray for his health, safety, and protection. Pray for his tv shows and movies. Pray for his ministry.
Regardless of how you “word” your prayers, if you genuinely love Jesus, and have a pure heart to pray for the filmmaker on your heart, God will respond to those genuine prayers. Just pray.
While you are praying for your filmmaker, ask God if it is His plan for you to continue praying for this filmmaker from a distance, or if He is calling you to come alongside your filmmaker more personally. Ask God if He is calling you to become a “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior” for this filmmaker. Even if you do not yet have the answer to that prayer, ask Him, that if He is indeed calling you into a more relational prayer ministry to this filmmaker, to give you a “Divine opportunity” to connect with your filmmaker. Pray for your filmmaker to find you.
Let me emphasize the last suggestion: Pray for your filmmaker to find you! God is more than able!
KEEP PRAYING until you either receive a firm, “No,” or until something happens. It may take some time, but if it is in His will, God can, and more than likely will, be working in you and in your filmmaker to orchestrate “just the right” moment for the two of you to connect.
An Example of a Firm “No.”
Over the span of many years, I VERY MUCH wanted to be an intercessor to a wonderful and greatly dedicated servant of God (not a filmmaker), but, sadly, I, once and for all, received a FIRM, “No.” from God. I KNEW I had so much to offer this great man of God, whom my heart wanted so much to serve in prayer. I knew I would be an extremely dedicated intercessor to him. I knew I would serve him well, and I did not understand why the Lord was not opening up the door for me to become his Personal Intercessor. Through many e-mails, spanning many years, I had offered so much, then one day, I approached this servant of the Lord and again offered myself as an intercessor to him. He lovingly, but firmly echoed God's firm “No.” I was heartbroken. That day, however, I was told that I could still “pray” for him. I DO still pray for him. I pray for him (almost) every single day. I just do not pray for him the way I could if I were his “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior.” I still do not understand why the Lord has locked that door to me, but I have chosen to be obedient in what the Lord is allowing me and leading me to do...and that is to pray for his family on a very regular (almost daily) basis, without any interaction from him. Although it is not what I have always wanted, I am extremely grateful for what I have been given.
An Example of a “God-Orchestrated, Just the Right Moment”
I first sensed the call to pray for my filmmaker prayer assignment several years before I actually contacted him. I never knew that God would assign a “filmmaker” to me as a “Prayer Assignment.” I never saw that coming. Nonetheless, one minute I'm sitting there enjoying a great tv show, written, starring, directed, and produced by my assignment, and the next, I was impregnated with the “seed” of the “Divine Call” to be the star's intercessor. It was quiet, non-dramatic, and quite simple, yet from that point on, that “seed” ever-so-slowly grew quietly inside me until it was birthed into reality. God sure works in unconventional ways.
The day my prayer assignment and I met face to face, I told him the story of how I was watching his show and sensed the call to be his intercessor. He asked me why I didn't call him (then). I told him that I wasn't ready then, and I KNEW it! God had a LOT of work to do to prepare me for this prayer assignment. Although I was very passionate about prayer, I was a very immature intercessor, and needed to learn a lot before God was able to trust me with this prayer assignment. It did not happen overnight. It took several years, lots of hard work on my part, extensive counseling from incredibly loving and patient church pastors and counselors, and countless tears. (Many, many tears. Did I mention tears?)
My growth was extremely painful. Yours may not be, but growth is necessary, because a “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior” is not for the fainthearted. It is for committed warriors, who are not afraid of the brutality of the battle and who are willing to lay down their lives in the battle. (Yes, I did imply that Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors are willing to actually lay down their lives in the battle.)
Be patient if it does not happen as quickly as you would like. Enjoy the growth process, knowing that, as you allow God to mature you, you will become a much more effective intercessor for your filmmaker...and isn't that what you want?
So, wait for God's perfect time, do not rush it, and PLEASE allow GOD to set up your “God-ordained moment” with your filmmaker. Please do not initiate contact that has not been initiated by God first! Remember the CALLING of God cannot be taken away. (my paraphrase – please see Romans 11:29) If GOD has ORDAINED this relationship before He laid the foundations of the world, HE will “cause” it to happen - in HIS time and in HIS way – for HIS glory!

Practical Application Power Prayer
Father God, I give my entire life to You, including the desire to be (filmmaker's name) “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior.” I ask You, God, is it Your plan for me to continue praying for (filmmaker's name) from a distance, or are You calling me to come alongside (filmmaker's name) more personally? I ask You, God, are You calling me to become a “Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior” for (filmmaker's name)? Even if You do not answer me right away, I ask You that if You are indeed calling me into a more relational prayer ministry to (filmmaker's name), to give me a “Divine opportunity” to connect with him/her. I pray, in Jesus' name, for (filmmaker's name) to find me, and I ask for a “God-ordained invitation” to contact him/her. Thank You, God, that You can do exceedingly, abundantly MORE than I could EVER DARE TO DREAM OR ASK! I am excited to see how You will answer this prayer, and as I wait on YOU to orchestrate just the right moment, I will continue to praise Your wonderful name! I love You, God! AMEN!
