“Love doesn't begin with sex...it begins with God...and nobody can love you like He does.”
The above quote is spoken through the courageous lips of a christian filmmaker, and is taken from his Christian television show. Later in that episode, the cast briefly state some sad statistics about sexual content on television, then air a young man's personal story exposing the painful, life-altering dangers of pornography, followed by touching on the hope found in God and principles found in the Truth of His Word.
Who, in their right mind, would DARE to have the audacity to swim upstream in today's culture, go against the grain in today's entertainment, and air something as outrageously bold as THAT on television?
The Christian filmmaker...and I applaud each and every one! In trying to explain the NEED for “Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors” for Christian filmmakers, need I say any more?
However, I do have more I would like to say. I have struggled with how to find appropriate words for this chapter. I do not want to be misunderstood. My intention is to help, not hurt - give useful suggestions toward change, not attack nor condemn. There are extremely talented filmmakers out there, in the secular arena, who need our prayers, not our criticism.
If we want radical change in the entertainment that is offered to this generation and the ones to come, we need to pray for ALL filmmakers; but, of special necessity, is praying for those Christian filmmakers who are in the minority, and who are courageously swimming upstream in today's culture.
THEY NEED our prayers! THEY are on the front lines of the battle. THEY have huge, invisible targets, painted on their chests, that attract enemy darts like magnets. The enemy is the prince of this world, and has an evil scheme to draw this generation of tv/movie viewers away from the Truth of God's Word. Of course he does NOT want Christian television and movies thwarting his plan, so he is out to fiercely oppose anyone who would DARE threaten his plan. The Christian filmmakers are screaming targets for this fierce enemy opposition. THEY dare to make a difference. THEY dare to swim upstream. THEY dare to go against the grain. THEY dare to change the spiritual atmosphere of this culture, and, because (1) their vast influence spans across generational lines and across church affiliation and denominational boundaries, and reaches far across cities, states, countries, and continents with the intentional messages they air, and (2) GREATER is He Who is in us than he that is in the world, THEY have the power to do so!
Pause and think about that one for a minute. THEY dare to change the spiritual atmosphere of this culture, and … THEY have the power to do so!
A very simple internet search using the question, “What is the most powerful influence in shaping culture?” yielded the non-surprising results:
“...the influence of mass media on our kids, teenagers, and society is so big...of all the media distribution channels the most influential has been the television...they have the power to shape the opinion and beliefs of us and our kids.”
“...the media has a huge impact on society and also in public opinion...they can shape the public opinion...”
(http://rayuso.hubpages.com/hub/Mass-Media-Influence-on-Society) (researched on November 25, 2011)
This “shaping” of our children, teenagers, and society works in BOTH directions!
The enemy knows this is very true, and it makes him rage with fury as he unrelentingly heats up the battle against the Christian filmmakers, and amazingly, THESE die-hard trailblazers dare to choose to position themselves right on the front lines of the raging battle to victoriously redeem the television airwaves and movie reels for God's Kingdom.
THEY are in the battle themselves, and THEY need “Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors!”
Okay, we have, now, successfully identified the NEED for “Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors” for Christian filmmakers, but what happens if we choose to turn our backs on the need and choose not to intercede on behalf of the Christian filmmakers?
“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.” (KJV)
That is a sobering verse; however, my intention for including it is to motivate us toward action, not condemn us toward offense. If no one stands in the gap, in the midst of the fierce battle, for those who are courageous enough to change the spiritual climate of entertainment, and, ultimately, our society, then we are just bringing disaster down on our own heads...as well as the heads of our future generations – and THAT is a sobering thought.
However, I like happy endings, so the encouraging side of this section is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
AMEN! THAT is a happy thought! Come on, “Culture-Changing, Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors,” let's pray THAT into reality!
What Practical Application Nugget Did We Learn?
Christian filmmakers dare to change the spiritual atmosphere of this culture, and, THEY have the power to do so! They NEED our prayers! God's Word tells us that He is looking for someone to stand in the gap!
Practical Application Power Prayer
Oh, Gracious and Merciful Lord, please do not pour out Your indignation upon us! Please do not consume us with the fire of Your wrath! Call intercessors, specifically, “Battle-Closet Prayer Warriors” to intercede for the Christian filmmakers on behalf of our land. I see the great need for them to have intercessors, and I choose to give myself to You and be led by You to intercede for them as Your Spirit leads me. Teach me how to do this, open up supernatural time in my schedule to do this, and remind me that I committed to do this. I need Your help, and as I take the first step toward You, please lead me in the direction You want me to go as I pray for the Christian filmmakers. Humbly, I thank You. Amen.
