Identify, Update, and Support Your Battle-Closet Prayer Warrior(s)
Filmmakers, I want to share some practical pointers with you, so you and your intercessor can work together, as a united team, for maximum effectiveness in your ministry:
Identify Your Closet Warrior(s)
Ask God to reveal to you who is already praying for you, and/or who is willing to pray for you. Ask Him to give you “Divine revelation.” More than likely, there are more people praying for you than you may realize. Ask God to reveal every one of them. Specifically, ask God to reveal the “Closet Warrior” HE has ordained, before He laid the foundations of the world, to closely come along side of you to serve YOU and travail for you on the battleground of prayer.
Then ask Him to orchestrate the “perfectly-Divine” and “perfectly-timed” “meeting” with your Closet Warrior.
Before I initiated the very first contact with my filmmaker prayer assignment, he, obviously, never knew I prayed for him and that I desired to become his intercessor. Also, when I am prompted by the Holy Spirit, I also lift up prayers for other Christian filmmakers. God is limitless. God has the power, and I honestly believe the desire, to RAISE UP (an) intercessor(s) for YOU, hard-working, Kingdom-building, Jesus-loving, soul-saving filmmaker!
Update Your Closet Warrior(s)
After you identify your intercessor(s), update your intercessor(s) with vital prayer request updates. Although the Holy Spirit speaks to every believer, and is certainly more than able to lead us in what He wants us to be praying for, and also, although intercessors should always strive to sharpen our “listening skills,” intercessors are NOT perfect, and, sometimes, our spiritual ears hear muffled or we, sometimes, miss the mark. So, in MY opinion, keeping in contact with the intercessor, for the purpose of keeping the intercessor informed and updated so she will know how to be most effectively praying for you, is VITALLY important!
Ummm, wow! I need to insert a story right here. To add more emphasis to my point, as I was in the process of typing this very chapter, my phone rang. After I answered it, the voice on the other end of the phone said, “Right now, we are......PLEASE be praying!” Well, God has just confirmed my point. I always strive to be in fine-tuning hearing of the Holy Spirit, but I was going back and forth from my keyboard, typing this chapter, and the printer, printing out homeschool Biology work for my daughters, and I obviously did not hear the Holy Spirit's command to drop to my knees and fervently intercede for my prayer assignment for this very specific request at that very specific moment. So, after receiving the phone call prayer request, I went into my bedroom, closed the door, knelt by the bed, and FERVENTLY interceded until I sensed a release from the Spirit to stop praying and thank God for the answer to that prayer! It was a POWERFUL time of prayer and a POWERFUL time of praise...one that I would have missed out on if my filmmaker prayer assignment had not picked up the phone to call me and ask me for a “pray-for-this-right-now” prayer!
Of course I need to insert the latest update. The phone rang a few hours after I wrote that. The same voice was heard to say, “Thank You, Jesus!” God answered our fervent prayer, the one I would not have known to pray if my filmmaker had not called me to ask me to be praying.
The Bible says, in James 4:2, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.” (KJV)
It is only my opinion, but if you are going to err, Filmmaker, err on the side of always asking for prayer rather than not.
Keeping in contact, with updates and prayer requests, ranks high on “My Suggested List of Ways Filmmakers Can Support their Closet Warriors!” That leads me to my next practical pointer for you as a filmmaker:
Support Your Closet Warrior(s)
Pray WITH your intercessor and pray FOR your intercessor!
Be a “spiritual, protective covering” over your intercessor. Remember that your intercessor purposely chooses to position herself between you and the fiery darts of the enemy, and she may need the “protective covering” of your prayers and guidance.
Keep the lines of communication open between you and your intercessor. Share your expectations, boundaries, and vision (and anything else you need or want to share) in truth, grace, and gentleness. Also, be available to your intercessor as she may have need of communicating with you.
If you have decided that your prayer relationship will include telephone updates, call your intercessor, regularly, to give updates, prayer requests, and encouragement!
Send your intercessor updates, prayer requests, and encouragement via e-mail, text message, Facebook message, snail mail, or any other form of written communication. (You get the picture!)
Provide your intercessor with your scripts, shoot schedules, call sheets, and any necessary paperwork and information that will help your intercessor pray more effectively for the project you are currently working on.
Send your intercessor Scripture verses, sermons, or anything else that spiritually encourages, refreshes, and promotes spiritual growth for your intercessor. Remember, she is fighting a fierce battle on your behalf, and, at times, may become weary. Receiving something from you that will promote growth in her may be needed and very refreshing.
Invite, welcome, and encourage your intercessor to pray in your office, in your tv studio, and on your “on-location” sites.
Be patient with your intercessor. Although she may have a passionate heart to pray for you, she may know very little to nothing about the tv/movie business and may not understand how to pray for you the way you are requesting.
Occasionally tell your intercessor how much you appreciate her.
Explain to Your Closet Warrior(s) What You Feel is Necessary
Explain what you feel is necessary for your intercessor to know and understand about the movie/tv business and ministry in order for her to be praying more effectively. Please remember to be patient, as your intercessor's knowledge and understanding may be very limited. Also, try to avoid overwhelming her with unnecessary information that will not help in her calling to pray. My filmmaker prayer assignment does an absolutely fantastic job explaining to me what he feels I need to know about the movie business in a way that he perceives I will understand; however, he does not go into great, exhaustive detail explaining absolutely everything to me, as he has told me that may just cloud how God has called me to pray for him. As much as that frustrates me as his intercessor, who wants to learn EVERY TINY DETAIL about the movie business, I believe there is MUCH wisdom in his decision. Trust God to help you to explain to your intercessor what is necessary, then trust Him with the way He leads your intercessor to pray for you.
Trust and Follow God's Lead, Enjoy Your Closet Warrior's Desire to Serve You, and Enjoy God's Surprises
Before God created the foundations of the world, He is the One Who formed this unique and special prayer relationship between filmmaker and intercessor. Trust Him. Work together to glorify Him, follow His lead, and trust Him with the rest. He will surprise and delight you in ways far beyond your dreams!
