Join me in praying for God to comfort F.G. (and her sister) and put F.G. to bed as you read the following blog post that I wrote many years ago:
God, Put Me to Bed
The Joy of Allowing God to Put You to Bed
Every night, (unless there are circumstances that prevent us from doing so) we gather our family together for our bedtime prayers. After prayers, I tell the children that I am so happy that they were born. Then my husband and I go into their rooms to kiss them good-night. I, then, tell each of them that I am so happy that they are my son / daughter. This is one of my favorite parts of the day with my children! It is such an incredible bonding time. After all the cares of the world are over for the day, I can kiss my children's precious faces and gently whisper, with more meaning than a shout, "I am so happy you are my son / daughter!"
Tonight my husband added something new to the "moment." While kissing my youngest good-night, my husband said, "Thanks for being my son!"
He replied, "Yer welcome! I'm just doin' my job!"
It was so cute! He did not do anything. He was just getting cozy in his bed. Furthermore, he did not do anything to become his father's son. It was love that conceived him, and it is love that nurtures him. He was, and is, a product of tremendous love!
The whole incident was so cute, and it made me think of God. Each one of us is His precious child. God is so happy that each one of us was born. In fact, it was in God's Master plan that each of us was conceived and born into the world. Not one of us was an accident. God deliberately planned to give each of us life! God loves each one of us with such an unimaginable kind of love. We just cannot comprehend the depth of God's love. The Bible tells us that God IS love and that He is our Heavenly Father. He loves us in a way that no earthly parent ever could! Not one of us did anything to become our Heavenly Father's child. It was God's love that conceived us, and it is His love that nurtures us. Each of us is a product of God's tremendous love!
It brings security, peace, and joy when I "put my children to bed," kiss them good-night, and say, "I am so happy you are my son / daughter!" No, they do not tell me that it brings security, peace, and joy to them. They do not need to. It shows on their faces! The last thought that I want my children to dwell on is that they are wanted and loved...and that brings joy to me!
I turned forty years old on May 14, 2008. I am already getting gray hair! (Yuck!) I am a grown-up, but I am not too old to allow God to "put me to bed!" Each of God's precious children is never too old to be "God's child!" God is our Heavenly Father.
Every day, talk to your Father. He wants to enjoy sweet conversation. After the cares of this world are over for the day, allow Him to "put you to bed." Bond with God! His role is to love you as His child, and your role is to receive His love, as a child, and love Him back. When God says, "Thanks for being My child," you can reply, "Yer welcome! I'm just doin' my job!" Then as God kisses your precious face, listen as He whispers to you, "I am so happy you are my child (son / daughter!)!" Rest, for the night, in the security, peace, and joy of knowing that you are deeply wanted and perfectly loved by a Father that is so happy that you are His child!
That will bring joy to God and to you! Allowing God to "put you to bed" every night will make your heart soar with overcoming, soaring joy!
